Piano lessons in Sun City, taught by Rory Dowse.
Adults who start at sixty are not starting from behind. They know what they want to sound like, they practise because they chose to be there, and they tend to reach the point of playing something they actually enjoy faster than a child does.
Lessons are one to one at Faith Presbyterian Church in Sun City, on an acoustic instrument. Bring whatever you want to be able to play — hymns, Chopin, something from a film — and we will build the technique around it rather than the other way round.

Twenty years of teaching, and one student who rewrote the record books.
In 2026 Rory’s student Freya Terris became the first one-handed pianist to pass Grade 8 with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, in a history stretching back almost 140 years. She relearned the instrument with her left hand alone after surgery, taught online across a seven-hour time difference.
That is not a normal teaching problem. It is included here because it says something about how lessons run: start from what the student can actually do, and build.
